A Message from Cara Day

My best and most favorite lifework is as a mother of five, now ages 15, 24, 26, 28, and 30.

Helping others began for me at age 4, with my dolls and willing friends. By age 10, the mother of a boy paid me $2 for teaching her son to read. That was a life-changing moment. In high school, I was twice pulled from class by the guidance counselor to speak with other students–a boy who was skipping classes, and a girl with an unplanned pregnancy.

I started college at age 16 at San Diego State University. I’ll never forget the first day. Walking from my car by the old Peterson Gym to my first college class, I said “Hi” to everyone I passed, but no one said “Hi” back! My greetings stopped, but true to my nerd-dom, I loved every minute of college study, graduating summa cum laude with bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as a Reading Specialist Credential.

Since 1996, Day Prep has been serving children and families. After teaching for a few years, I developed a program for families for my master’s degree, which pulled me out of the classroom. For a decade, I became a sought-after trainer and speaker while growing a private educational therapy and family coaching practice. Currently, I am in the final months of my Ph.D. in Psychology, specializing in marriage, family, trauma, and addiction.

In 2009, Day Prep’s private school was granted Western Association of Schools and Colleges (W.A.S.C.) accreditation in its first year—the work of an extraordinary team. We now we serve in person in our headquarter city, La Jolla, CA  and anywhere in the world without geographic restriction. Online team training developed in 2020 has changed the way we are able to provide our in person services. Remote school and private school are also available to anyone who shares our mission. Despite the many challenges of today’s world, schooling your child in the way that works best for you is certainly a situation to be grateful for.

Seeing the original vision for the company and our services expand and evolve under the leadership of our executive team is a great joy in my life. Day Prep continues to serve families and be a wonderful place for teachers to work while continuously improving its customer service practices, teaching methods, and strategic vision. Meeting the needs of families based on their values and wishes for their children is our guiding mission.

We invite you to explore and learn more about our services—transformative, irresistible, and captivating learning for your children and family.
