My “why” for being a teacher stems from my passion for psychology and my dedication to helping children not only academically but also as they develop other skills. I am deeply committed to empowering my students to advocate for themselves and their needs. Every day, I strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every student feels heard, valued, and capable of expressing themselves. Through my background in psychology and my role as a teacher, I am positioned to address the social and emotional needs of my students, equipping them with the tools to navigate the complexities of the world around them. Teaching is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about fostering resilience, empathy, and self-confidence. The collaborative team experience and leadership support in this setting further enabled me to amplify the impact of my efforts. Being a teacher at Day Prep is not just a career decision but a deeply personal calling, rooted in the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive and succeed, both in the classroom and beyond. –Kate Brock
Each time I work with a student, I am reminded of why I love my job. Seeing my students develop new skills and become more independent is always a pleasure to watch. It’s always the little things: a student remembering that a negative times a negative equals a positive number or a student saying, “That makes sense,” after going over a problem, is music to my ears. Here at Day Prep, I am offered the opportunity to create my own schedule and be a leader during my one-on-one sessions. I have learned to guide my students as a tutor and create mini-lessons as needed to support them. The best part of this job is building relationships with the students and seeing them grow in their academic skills over time. –Susana Zazueta
I have been working at Day Prep for a little over two years now, and I can say with confidence that this is a rewarding part of my life. As an honors college student, I was looking for a job where I could engage in my passion for education while also being able to grow personally- and I am so grateful that my path led me to Day Prep. In my time as a private instruction tutor I have worked with students who, upon beginning tutoring them, were doubtful of their academic abilities and dreaded many parts of school. This team has given me the support and confidence to know that I am able to change that attitude in students. Since working with these students over the past two years I have seen incredible growth- from doubting their abilities in school to excitedly applying for college, or feeling anxious about tackling a high level workload to being able to act like they are teaching me these topics- the growth I have seen in these students is the best part of this job. It absolutely warms my heart and brings a smile to my face to see a student light up and find their true passion for learning; only at Day Prep has this been possible for me. These students and their families have become a safe space for growth for both the student and I, making this job an opportunity like no other. Working at Day Prep has built my confidence as an educator and a leader, and has been the most rewarding experience. This work feels very in line with who I am and my values, which I can’t say I have felt in other work experiences. The supportive, value driven, kind environment at Day Prep has made all of this possible. I have even been able to share this opportunity with three of my good friends, and we enjoy sharing what a great feeling it is to be a true help for these students. I encourage it for you too! –Abigail Stallard
