A Message from Cara Day

My best and most favorite lifework is as a mother of five, now ages 13, 23, 25, 27, and 29.

Helping others began for me at age 4, with my dolls and willing friends. By age 10, the mother of a boy paid me $2 for teaching her son to read. In high school, I was pulled from class by the guidance counselors to speak to students in need of peer coaching, such as with one boy who was ditching classes, and a girl with an unplanned pregnancy.

I started college at age 16 at San Diego State University. I’ll never forget the first day. Walking from my car by the old Peterson Gym to my very first college class, I said “Hi” to everyone I passed. No one said “Hi” back! I stopped saying “hi” as I walked, but true to my nerd-dom, I loved every minute of college study, graduating Summa Cum Laude with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, as well as a Reading Specialist Credential.

After teaching for a few years, I developed a program for families that pulled me out of the classroom. For a decade, I was a sought after speaker/trainer as I managed our growing private educational therapy and family coaching practice. During that time, I became a Certified Coach, and completed training for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming therapies. I am now finishing up my Ph.D. in Psychology, specializing in marriage, family, trauma, and addiction.

In 2008, Day Prep opened our first K – 12 private school which became WASC accredited in its very first year—a remarkable feat made possible by our exemplary team. Now we have four campuses, serving children in San Diego county, and on a custom basis without geographic restriction.

Being up like toast every morning is a result of getting to do what I love: Developing methods, schools, and programs to help us become more of who we were born to be.
