My earliest days of being an educator was when I was given the responsibility of helping to raise my two younger brothers because both of my parents had to work. I felt very proud that my parents trusted me with this responsibility, and I took it very seriously. I picked them up from school, we did homework together which was rewarded with a game afterwards. I gave them the responsibilities of setting the table while I started the dinner for my mom. Throughout my early days in school, I was a sought-after nanny and to this day still have a nanny position with a local family I have been with for several years.
During my last two years of high school and during my early college days I worked at a private school in Florida teaching PK-K during the early part of the day. In the afternoon I picked up the after schoolers and worked with them tutoring and coaching. Working with young children to help them work through life’s trials and tribulations regardless of their situation is where my passion lies.
I started my college days out wanting to be a child psychologist and then moved to law. I worked for many years in a law office as a legal secretary with several different attorney’s practicing different types of law. One attorney in the office practiced family law. My admiration for her work, especially as a speaker for the children, influenced me to want to work as a child advocate. Life had other plans for me. While transitioning and figuring out where and when school would fit in to my current career, I was blessed with my first pregnancy.
I went on and raised four beautiful boys locally who are now successful adults. Needless to say, my career went on the back burner, but I used my passion of wanting to help young children navigate life’s pathways not only with my own children but also with their friends. Once I became an “empty nester” I asked the question most of stay-at-home moms ask themselves, “Now, what do I do?” A very good family friend, who I coached as a young girl, knew I was searching for answers for myself fulfillment heard about Day Prep and connected me with them. I am very thankful to say I was hired to be a support teacher which I am very grateful for and get much satisfaction from. Working with the wonderful families at Day Prep fills my heart and satisfies my life’s passion of being a listening ear, shoulder to lean on and gentle guide for our wonderful up and coming generation.
